Wake Up...

Black Hole

Forum's gone quiet, perhaps we can have a quote throw-down?

Where were you (if you were even born!) when HHGTTG first went out as a radio broadcast? I was at uni, trying to listen to it on a transistor radio while out with the walking club of a Sunday.

Nothing wrong with dog's milk. Full of vitamins, full of goodness, full of marrowbone jelly. Lasts longer than any other kind of milk, no bugger will drink it. The big advantage of dog's milk is it tastes exactly the same when it's gone off as when it was fresh.

It was first broadcast somewhere between my A Levels and University first year. It wasn't until someone at uni kept banging on about it that I gave it a listen - whenever it was repeated.

I try not to overthink where cow's milk comes from. Dog's (or any other animal's) milk is a step to far for me. Don't like to think of how an almond or soya is "milked". It tastes foul (to me) anyway.

According to Wiki, the first episode went out at 10.30pm on Wednesday 8th March 1978. Either the Sunday broadcast was a repeat or a very early example of the GD/EoT principle. Not as uncommon as you might think: Wiki lists more than 80 films that depend on this device.

Probably in bed as it was 22:30 on a school night. I first heard it on the record (probably well into 1979), which a friend had and lent me (to tape, illegally!). I've still got the tape in the big pile of 'things to do'. Radio broadcasts were then taped from whenever the repeat was, I guess around 1980. R4 used to turn the pilot tone on only for stereo programmes in those days, and one of the recordings has it cutting from mono to stereo about 20 seconds in, as they obviously forgot to do it during the pres. announcement as was usually the case. I was narked about it at the time.

Is that a good thing? I'd have thought consuming 'off' stuff was a bad idea. How would you milk a dog anyway, and how much would you get for how long (without depriving the pups of their food)? Seems like it's a non-starter on lots of levels.

Isn't that chickens' milk?

What Sunday broadcast? Genome says it was only Wed.

I have no idea what you are talking about. I guess I'm not alone. Try defining abbreviations before you use them, unless they are in common usage.
I was a laying in bed (as a student) when by accident caught the very first episode
A shtudent listening to R4 in the seventies? Was this a common thing? I don't think it was in the 80s (for me). And was it on LW or VHF (and no, I don't mean 'FM' - that wasn't mis-used as a term by the masses until the 90s)?

Too busy Pubbing ,clubbing and partying when it first aired though I quite enjoyed the TV series and that then later led to me hearing the radio series but also led to me watching the dreadful movie.

Complete guess but is "GD/EoT" Global destruction/ End of times ?
