WebIf Install error

Just discovered this custom firmware (2.20/1.03.06) for the HDR-FOX T2, it sounds superb so I tried installed it but hit a problem installing the full web interface and I'm now stuck.
The custom firmware installed all ok and the basic web i/f appeared correctly. After clicking the install full interface button it successfully downloaded many of the packages but got stuck at (I think) tfmenu due to a lock (/tmp/opkg?) being unavailable. Eventually I restarted the Hummy, hoping to be able to retry but instead get a directory listing - which turns out to be /mnt/hd2/mod/var/mongoose/html
telnet access is fine so the custom firmware is installed ok.
I rolled-back to the standard (1.02.32) firmware and reinstalled the custom firmware to see if that would get me the basic web i/f back but it hasn't.
I've also done the RMA process and reinstalled the custom firmware but now i'm not getting any web interface - it appears as though the custom firmware isn't installing properly as /mnt/hd2/mod is empty but I still have telnet access.
Any ideas on how I could proceed?

I have a similar problem with installing the full web interface as PaulTheOldBarn. The install failed ("hangs/loops") at installing tfmenu, and when I try to connect to the HUMAX I now get a list of folders/directories. Telnet works fine.
I installed the custom firmware (CFW) to resolve the "deleting/looping" problem which it resolved. I would however like to use some of the other features of the CFW, such as decrypting, remote access, copy files over LAN etc. and would be grateful if any of the Humm.tv experts could suggest a way to resolve the failed install.

Is the front panel display showing '== RMA =='?
Yes! I spotted that just after posting and guessed that where I'd gone wrong was by not installing the standard firmware after the RMA - installing custom firmware didn't reset the RMA. So I installed the standard firmware and then re-installed the custom firmware. That got me the basic web interface back.
This time the installation of the full web i/f got stuck after downloading the initial packages file - again stuck on /tmp/opkg.lock. But this time I manually deleted that file using telnet access and refreshed the web page and then it continued through to success. Hurrah :)
So, if anyone else has problems with installing the full web interface I suggest you use telnet to access the box and do the following
Code:
cd /tmp
rm opkg.lock

Thanks for the rapid responses!

Sorry I have taken so long to respond, I have been having a Scottish New Year!
I have run "
cat /tmp/modinit.log
" as suggested by xyz321 and the output (I am unfamiliar with Putty and
how to collect the output from its window so the command got run twice) is as follows:-

Code:
Menu version 1.07
Enter system PIN: ****

1 - Restart into maintenance mode.
2 - Remove web interface password.
stat - Show what the box is currently doing.
x - Exit and close connection.
diag - Run a diagnostic.
cli - System command line (advanced users).

Please select option: cli

Now starting a system command prompt. You can make this the default by
enabling 'Expert mode telnet server' on the web interface settings page.

I hope this is meaningful.
Many thanks.

I think the errors shown above are because when cutting and pasting, the text has been pasted back into the PuTTy window.

Can you try:
Code:
opkg install webif --force-reinstall

Hi xyz321,
I have tried the command you suggest and get the output below. The various installs proceed very rapidly, I can here the Hummy's disc working to install but it stops at the package indicated.

I ran the 'opkg update' as suggested and it seemed to complete but my problem remains that I get a directory/folder list when I try to access the HUMAX via browser.

Any help gratefully received.

If the download of ffmpeg is timing out then it indicates a network problem somewhere. Try just installing that package from the command line.

opkg install ffmpeg

Does it still time out?

If so, try this command

ifconfig eth0 mtu 1200

Then try installing ffmpeg again.

Thanks af123, it installed without problems, see below, but I cannot see what I need to do now to get the webif going - still getting a directory list when I browse to the HUMAX.
Ho Hum, I am starting to lose heart and I get the feeling that I am upsetting forum moderators by not posting correctly.
Is it worth continuing with the webif?

Now that ffmpeg has installed, try the webif installation again.

opkg install webif

This is happening to a few too many people, I'll need to think of a way of recovering more gracefully than this!

Many thanks af123 (and all the others who contributed) I have the webif running, great!
Probably too late now to start getting into the features at 22:50.

Ho Hum, I am starting to lose heart and I get the feeling that I am upsetting forum moderators by not posting correctly.
Don't worry you are not upsetting forum moderators, I have added code tags to your previous posts in this thread. :)

Thanks brian, I think I've got the hang of "code tags" now and will certainly use them when posting large outputs in future.

I am a newbie to HDR-FOX T2, though have been hacking my AppleTV2 for a while.

Just received my unit from HumaxDirect in Brentford, and I also hit this issue on first two install attempts, before resorting to the forum.

About to try and recall how to telnet and will try

cd /tmp

rm opkg.lock
