Problem solved... but for future reference, it seems that the directory must have had a LOT of files in it.
What follows would have been my next post... but turned into the solution. Posted here for posterity.
I was Googling Linux problems with ls hanging, some suggest a directory with a LOT of...
I seem to have a problem with a directory on one of my HDRs. If I do anything with the [edit]/[cut] directory, things seem to hang. Specifically, if I telnet in and then "ls /media/My\ Video/[edit\]/\[cut\]/", the command doesn't complete, nor can I ctrl-C or ctrl-D, I have to abort the telnet...
Thanks Ezra, that was what I had had in mind in my last line, but knew that each backup was just a single file.
It was only when I looked in the files, that I realised that they were just text and easy to identify the schedule, favourites and other parts. So it was easy to find the favourites...
Been chasing a problem for a few days with the [rs] not showing any EPG data for one of my HDRs. After a bit of investigating, I found that the HDR had lost its favourites group.
I always find setting up the favourites a pain to setup. Since my other HDR has the same configuration (except for...
Now that I understand the problem, I am quite prepared to work around it by retuning or leaving on as necessary, I will be able to fix things when I go home at the weekend. The tunefix update will prevent the same problem in the future (thanks prpr).

I presume that the 'home' region has been stored, that with ethernet access I could reset that, but in my case, the only option is to uncustomise?
That makes sense, not really any way that tunefix could infer that I wanted to change 'home' region ( except possibly that it would end up with an...
Nexus 7 and a Samsung phone and no physical access to the WiFi hub. In any case, taking the unit back home next Saturday. But it would have been nice to understand why relocation seems to be a problem (probably not too many people have to worry about it....until they move home).

I have tunefix installed.
Manual retuning is quite quick (especially with only 3 mux's here), so I can do that when I need. I can even leave it turned on.
A solution would be nice, but more than anything, I was curious about what was causing the problem.

It would be a coincidence (but not impossible) if something had gone wrong with the tuning storage coincident with the move. But I am still wondering if it is an issue with the retune and region change... so, being being reset/restored at powerup.
But, as I tried to say (autocorrect not...
My HRD-FOX-T2 has custom firmware, including schedule backup etc.
I have taken it away from my home region (where I have no weight access; I have WiFi, but I don't have a dongle for the Humax).
I have retuned, but if I turn the box off, it says that there are no channels when I turn it back on...
I have never had any problem with recording The House That £100k Built (and others in the £100k series) in HD, only with the way that WebIf/CF features handle the name afterwards.
Would like to wait and see myself, but since we are out that evening I will have to fix the schedule before then.
It is probably related, but since yesterday morning (21st) the conflict email has only listed The Voice and Call the Midwife.
(that appears to be the first conflict email after my...
