Remote oddity
Just bought a used early remote on ebay - the one with the translucent battery hatch strap which comes apart easily - and on out-of-the-box testing there's a funny. All the other remotes I've got here, regardless of age and version, transmit a single IR code on pressing PVR, TV, DVD & AUDIO but...- everthewatcher

network-shares-automount SMB 'wakeConstantly?' not working as intended?
Renaming the 'wakeConstantly?' folder under Modsettings/smb to 'wakeConstantly' seems to work as intended. But after a reboot it's back to 'wakeConstantly?' which rather defeats things. Am I missing something?- everthewatcher

It looks like the disk has gone read-only and I'll need some hand-holding
Following on from this message it looks like I may now have a read-only hard disk. I've swapped the front panel PCB back just in case there was some coding on the DTR one that caused the issue but it remains. Symptoms are: Files on the disk can be played A recording appears to be being made but...- everthewatcher

New RM-F04 remote: Excellent service from eBay supplier
Thought it would be a good idea to get a new RM-F04 remote for the HDR-Fox T2s while they were still available. Went for this one from eBay as it was cheaper than Humax Direct. Ordered just before 3pm yesterday and it arrived early this morning.- everthewatcher

Life of HDDs
Found a dumped VM-branded Cisco 8620 cable box with a 500GB HDD that I thought was worth bunging in the boot just for the drive. The HDD is a Western Digital WD500AADS from July 2011, 3042 days powered on, a power cycle count of 173 and no reallocated or pending sectors. WD's long test returns...- everthewatcher

I can't see beta packages on the main machine any more
Posted this in another thread and was told I probably need to re-enable the opkg-beta package from the command line. A bit of hand-holding please - how do I do re-enable it? On fan cleaning
I'd noted the HDD temperature on the main T2 had started to run a few degrees hotter over the last few months. Nothing dramatic, say a rise of 15C over ambient instead over 10C (35C vs. 30C). The fan package is installed, set to a minimum of 49% (it doesn't like 50%) so it's running all the...- everthewatcher

Looks like I may have found the solution to Windows/SMB shares being visible from the HDR but not their content - forgive me if this has been posted elsewhere. Samba share dropout
I now know how to recognise the signs of a corrupt or .part file on a shared drive that the HDR doesn't like - and it doesn't seem to matter if it's mapped to the local disk or not as has been suggested. A nice score from a dumped Sky HD+ box
I've mentioned before that dumped Sky+ boxes will usually have a perfectly good Seagate 500GB drive in them, same model as used in the HDR, albeit with a high power on time of sometimes >2000 days. I've got a stack of them here plus a 250GB one that I must do something about and every one passed...- everthewatcher

A new way of crashing the HDR?
Last night the HDR was crashing after every 170-180 seconds of uptime. I seem to have established that it's caused by something it doesn't like - probably a filename - in a shared directory on a Windows 7 PC, connected using network-shares-automount and I'm in the process of finding out what...- everthewatcher

Yet another oddity
Last night, after the main box had powered up as scheduled boot at 5pm and then sat doing nothing for a couple of hours, I pressed Play to bring up the time bar so I could skip back to the news. Nothing happened. Tried again. Nothing. Pause didn't work either. Oh dear, looks like an HD issue...- everthewatcher

VFD repeater on web i/f - where's the setting to enable?
I've just fixed a non-working charity shop find HDR, of which possibly more anon. The CFW packages and settings have all been sorted but I can't remember where the setting is to enable the VFD mimic on the web i/f. Can someone point me in the right direction?- everthewatcher
