Assume v. Presume

I've gone to sleep and woken up several hours later with the same breaking news.
Which is largely why I don't bother with any TV or radio (or paper) news these days. I can find any news online and read/watch the parts worth paying attention to in a fraction of the time it takes to get it from broadcast sources. A glance at a web page shows what's 'new since last time.

The BBC reported on the Biden/Trump debate(!) and used the word 'bloviation', another new one for me.

That seems to be of US origin, so we have an excuse. We could even accuse the BBC of "dumbing" down by surrendering to terms from the other side of the pond!

Bloviation sounds like some sort of deviation in the porn industry. Begs the question, was the debate a mass one?

Uttered by a member of the public on BBC Breakfast: "regenerised", a conflation of "regenerated" and "energised". Anybody know what to call that? I don't think it fits as a malapropism or an egg-corn.

Can you turn an adjective into a verb by adding 'ed'? (moribund (adj) v moribunded (v?)
Other than the fact that I can't find moribunded anywhere.

:D

I wondered whether anyone would pick up on that. I thought about "made moribund", but went with my original inclination - it's fashionable to turn nouns into verbs after all (eg party / to party)!

You don't need to have a qualifier (or whatever) the single word (without the ed) is a full explanation of what you meant. (After I had googled it to find out what the hell you meant)

What - you didn't know the word "moribund"? That's us.

Really?
The various custom portal developments were moribunded by the switch to Opera.
"The various custom portal developments were moribund by the switch to Opera" doesn't work for me.

Neither works for me.

I've heard it, never used it, but don't "know" it. Like Trev, I had to google the word to work out what you meant.
Not an ideal way to impart information. :duel:
