Aura Android 14 update now

If the Humax contact is on this forum they could post on a thread, rather than DM.
I am awaiting a reply to a DM I sent him yesterday asking if he had any idea when I might get the update but he has not logged back in yet. Have you got the update option yet ?

FTP test and Upload:
I made a new one off recording off BBC HD on the Aura

Got on my PC and copied it via the file manager in windows from the Network device "This PC\Aura 4K Media Server (192.###.#.###)" to my PC (Simple copy).
The file type was unexpected as it was a .Mpeg which played on my PC (HD not encrypted!!).

I then with Filezilla copied the whole folder from the Aura "101_BBC_ONE_Lon_HD" containing two folders with file in each
The_One_Show_BBC ONE Lon HD_101_170_converted
The_One_Show_BBC ONE Lon HD_101_170_enc
Both with .ts files in them.
The converted version was unencrypted!!
I deleted them directly on the Aura from the recordings screen and got back on the PC and recopied the two folders and contents into uploads with filezilla.

And got a file copy error saying file already exists , copy over etc.
screen dump attached as .jpg

I cant see any folders from the aura directly or filezilla once the process fails this is not unlike the issues I had copying to the movies folder, where directories became undeletable and files in them did not copy.
Note target 0 bytes.

Another conundrum.

Would have been better to test an SD recording. What you appear to have is a converted HD. The original HD should work (V9) but the download is encrypted and unplayable. I've never looked at converted HD - i assumed they wouldn't work.
Your attachment suggests you've copied or created a folder in Upload. What usually works in V9 is the downloaded x_enc.ts or x.ts is transferred to Upload. No directories, just the file to Upload.

I just grabbed a fresh programme at random but it is interesting the file is spilt into two halves.
The enc one is indeed encrypted but the other is not.
And when I manually copied it it got converted to .mpeg also not encrypted.

But like the movie trial the copy still fails when the file is in a folder and why is Filezilla seeing a file on the Aura during copy when it was deleted by the Aura directly and not visible in the file target window?
is the file system keeping remnants of file structure after deleting , Filezilla sees a 0 byte file and did not overwrite it .
I am unsure what is going on.
I will try an SD recording and back it up with FTP and manually repeat the test to compare.
The file and folder handling seems off to me.

Conversion to mpeg suggests you are not using ftp. IIRC if the Humax disk appears as a mounted disk on your pc and you drag and drop files from the Aura to pc it converts the file type to mpeg, which it isn't. It may even automatically decrypt HD - but I'd need to check that.

As far as I can tell, if you get the suffix .mpeg upload (V9) will not work. Examining a hex dump of the mpeg file shows it does not contain the correct data for upload. Saving by ftp does and the suffix should be .ts.
HD files saved as .mpeg (drag and drop from a windows explorer screen) get decrypted and reduced in resolution (max 960 x 540).
Older recordings seem to behave differently.
Older than when? Before the update or longer. That might imply Humax have screwed up the downloads as well.

2025 in this case
I keep some of the encrypted recordings on the Aura that I cant transfer and archive , to keep disk space usage low on the Aura.
Over filled hard drives can get very fragmented and may be another factor for members.

I just found a decrypted suffix on another file in the recordings folder , how it got produced on the aura is unknown.

You are correct the resolution has dropped on the .mpeg and it is likely a .ts renamed and processed during the copy.

I use MediaInfo in windows to get codec information and metadata once downloaded.

I am not sure if probing the aura is causing unwanted side effects.

On the recording front I recorded all the Channel 4 SD live British Touring car episodes , All 6hr+ duration (support races too) and all are intact this year from August to Autumn.
I have had a very small number of dropped episodes on series but not anywhere as bad as other users report.

Well, I thought, I've got backups of non-Humax files I've uploaded to the "Movies" area. I can't always make sense of what others are doing and, by the look of it, I'm not explaining what I mean very well. I've just tested the Aura and it says the new download is available. Shall I, shan't I? Ok - I'll give it a go. After numerous attempts I'm giving up. All I get is download failed. Must be an omen. Looks like I have to stick to V9. :D

Luckier than me , I still don't have the option to even get a failed download. If you are reading this Humax I am starting to feel victimised and that may lead to a decline in my mental health :)

I log into these forums every other day to check for the consensus on the new update. From what I can gauge it still looks a not yet. Agree / Disagree?

Sorry if I sound a bit OCD, I was a developer in education writing windows Pascal systems for my local college and tend to throw the kitchen sink at problems especially debugging.

In testing I tried most of the likely Aura folders to see what would transfer and avoiding system ones.
I would use FTP normally but tried alternate routes in this case just as a test.

The behaviour of the Aura file system is hard to work out as a simple single file FTP transfers ok to some aura folders but when importing folders and files is involved it gets very messy.
I am not as familiar with linux file system permissions but the odd behaviour hints at them being at the root of it.

As a hobby:
I used to pull off an SD recording and rebuild it with subs and embed in a .MKV container and even convert to x265 / HEVC if its very large with FFMpeg.
Thus keeping Aura file usage low to avoid file fragmenting.

Only offered yesterday, hesitant but took plunge. Getting black screen on live tv, did reboot, hesitent getting sd pictures , did channel search. All good now, definetly snappier and delay on playback is now gone. So on first use worth it, only time will tell?
External H/D unseen, but iffy anyway had to plug and replug to be seen, ok on LG tv.

One difficulty is that the behaviour of some/most/all folders on the Aura may have changed between V9 and V14.
Ownership and permissions will be the main cause of the problems. There was, in V9, an ftp server that performed some file manipulation on download of recordings and uploading them to Upload. In Upload (which appeared to be read-only) it must have examined the file (can it be converted back to a recording?), and if suitable overridden the folder protection. Almost all other non-system folders were read-write.
