Wifi extenders are usually bad news. Best practice is either wifi direct to your router (or wifi base station if using a separate one) or wired ethernet to your router. I realise that's not always easy but it is worth the effort. For my parents the wifi from their broadband router was rubbish and also at a far flung corner of the house, so I disabled the router's wifi and ran wired ethernet to a separate wifi base station upstairs much more centrally located.I posted #60 in 2023 but only recently bought a TP-link wifi range extender. The extender worked with my old wifi hub but BT has changed to a new one to connect to their digital phone network. My laptop can see it but my extender can't, so neither can my TV plugged into it by cable. The installation guide recommends the Tether app but that can't see my extender. Method 2 is to connect to http://www.tplinkrepeater.net or http://192.168.0.254. Method 3 is to press the WPS button on the router. None of the methods work so I will attempt to get an answer from BT.

Good news! I only had to press a non-obvious button on the range extender to get it to connect to the new hub. The TV plugs into it. I was able to do all the downloads and updates. Thanks very much for your help.In post #60 you state the above. Why isn’t the Foxsat-HDR connected directly to the internet so that it can download and install the various updates?
Can you temporarily use a long CAT5e cable to link the Foxsat-HDR to your network?
Or as I do use a TP-Link RE220 WiFi extender or similar. This is plugged in close to the Foxsat-HDR and connected to your Foxsat-HDR with CAT 5e cable?

The Foxsat may have wifi and wired ethernet if it's like the HDR Fox T2. In theory you could plug in two USB wifi adaptors leading to three network interfaces. Indeed, but why talk about HDMI in the same context as a wifi/ethernet issue? It is irrelevant how the Foxsat video is connected to the TV.He probably meant the Humax connects to the TV with HDMI (or does it have SCART as well, I can't remember?) and the Humax connects the network port to the extender.
The problem is if someone new comes along and reads this rubbish they may think they can do something that is impossible.But who knows, or cares. It's all illerevant.

There is some (only a little) justification for this. The newest HDMI specs include Ethernet, so that everything can go down one cable. Ethernet over HDMI came into the HDMI specs more than 10 years ago, far from newest. And then everyone completely ignored it, I am not aware of a single piece of equipment that implements it. And it will now never be used because instead those pins are used for ARC (Audio Return Channel) and eARC, which is a heavily used feature these days.There is some (only a little) justification for this. My Oppo 95 blu ray player was advertised as supporting wifi, which turned out to be a USB dongle. The dongle was at least supplied though.Of course I do, but it does not have built-in WiFi. This seems to be a stark statement that the HDR-FOX has WiFi built in, without any qualification. Anyone reading that who didn't know (eg Dave W) would think so.The Foxsat has wifi and wired ethernet if it's like the HDR Fox T2.
