Humax FHR-6000T Will this need its own listing in the forum? ( Now named the Aura EZ 4K Freely Recorder)

What we really need is zero uptake of Freely, but I don't think that's gonna happen somehow.
Loads of Freely bundled in new smart TVs. Freely doesn't need set top box sales to succeed, given the scandalous frequency with which people discard working TVs these days because they fancy a new one.

They shouldn’t have sold this box using Freeview as a marketing draw - it was dishonest
I may be missing something, but I didn't see the word Freeview in any of Humax's documentation for the EZ. Freeview may have been mentioned by ill-informed journalists.

Sigh.
Either yes you’re missing something or you are being deliberately obtuse. I don’t know if it’s in the manual but It was pushed to retail as a hybrid Freely/Freeview box and now they have pulled back from that and we can all guess why.
There are videos on YouTube which show people have understood it as a Freeview recorder and a Google search for Humax EZ Freeview gives many results.
I don’t know why you are defending this dishonest unfit for purpose piece of crap. Maybe you’re just a Freely fan and want Freeview to die. Maybe you work for Humax - I don’t care, and I am not going to waste any more of my time trying to convince you. Please enjoy your EZ if you have wasted £249 on it.
Enjoy!

I would not rely on them as being a reliable, authoritative source of technical product information. :/

Here’s the Argos tech department answering a customer question:
Argos rarely get information correct. There are often mistakes in product write-ups. The answers from technical support are also unreliable. I buy many things from Argos but never rely on their website for the technical specs. I go in search of the manufacturers website and find the specs and user manuals there.

I don't think that what you or others can do is the point being made though, it's more that these EZ boxes have been advertised in one or more places as having Freeview via aerial as well as Freely over the net, with recording being possible via the Freeview side of things.

It has turned out that simply is not the case, hence all the issues and dissatisfied customers, of which a very small proportion are on this and other forums.

I plugged it in again the other day and there seems to have been an update. It downloaded and I restarted the box but I can’t immediately see any improvement in the EZ at all or in my TV recording experience. Not much of a surprise tbh. Maybe I’m missing that something amazing happened.
Unplugging it again and putting it back in its cupboard.
BTW it still keeps randomly forgetting to name my recordings. That makes it almost impossible to watch what you want when you want.
Boo for the Humax EZ. They didn’t bother reading my posts. Never mind.

Cordbusters have now done a full review of the Aura EZ . If anyone reading this thread is considering buying an Aura EZ I strongly suggest you read their honest review and save yourself a whole heap of disappointment.

I doubt anyone who has read previous comments will go anywhere near this mismash box, but it's nice to see an updated review from Cordbusters with plain sensible advice not to buy the device.

Stick to what you've already got if you are recording from Freeview, and go the Manhattan route if you really must have access to Freely as well.

Reading that I don't think I'd be tempted even if I'd won the large Euromillions jackpot last week!

Strangely Cordbusters didn’t mention the unnamed recordings problem that I had. Or the double entry recordings problem.
Can’t believe Humax haven’t made an urgent priority update for their brand new product to prevent people posting negative reviews of their flagship PVR.
Seems like the ship has sunk.

If you had that kind of money, you coud send a free one to everyone you don't like.
I'd have to do it anonymously. Think of the abuse I'd get from people when they find the EZ doesn't work as they expected. I can manage without that stress

I can't see them producing the updates that would make it work as we want. They probably need to rethink - unlikely. Go back to Android and allow access to apps people want. Make the aerial side more like the original Aura - sensible way to set recordings, pause etc.
Easier solution. Reintroduce the original Aura, with working software! Produce a Freely app for the Aura that you can download if you want. Job done. Except Everyone TV (Freeview, Freely, Freesat) probably won't allow it.

From the user manual:

The implication is if you don't connect to the internet and skip the terms and conditions you will only get the Humax interface and no Freely. But don't try looking for updates!
You can uninstall the Freely app

I wonder whether Humax could implement a version of the original Aura's firmware on the new Aura EZ. That would be the most sensible route... a box which might have reasonably reliable FreeviewPlay capability, and access to the Freely apps when wanted by the user - not a fudge forced upon the unsuspecting punter!

As it stands, I wouldn't touch this with a barge pole.

I stand by what I said before. Humax should have spent time getting the Aura functioning without the issues that have plagued it and then released a stand alone Freely box that could be sold to existing Aura owners, sold separately or bundled with an Aura as a discounted package. It would have then prevented the Freely gods being able to dictate what the Aura is capable of doing.

It depends whether the Aura and the EZ are effectively the same hardware. Then there are the problems some people have with the original Aura. I'd guess that's firmware rather than hardware. Transplanting :poop: firmware to a different box probably won't achieve much. Humax are dragging their feet with the promised original Aura update so trying to move it to EZ... I'd say never!

Freely gods = Freeview gods = Freesat gods.
Everyone TV has a monopoly on free-to-air. Wouldn't surprise me if they couldn't somehow prevent that solution as well. Oh and there's a surprise, Everyone TV backed by BBC, ITV, 4 & 5.

They cannot stop me adding a Manhattan Aero or a Pleo next to my Aura and I doubt they could if Humax had just a Freely box either.
