Am I right in thinking all Freeview channels I get on Aura I will get on EE TV Box Pro without an EE subscription?
Has anyone had both the Aura and EE TV Box Pro to know what the differences are?
I’ve had an Aura since its release and fortunately I am one of the few lucky ones who have a generally well behaved box. I think regular Freeview resets helps which I do every three months or so.
I also have the EE TV Box Pro in the bedroom and have to say even though my Aura is a good one the EE box is much more intuitive and user friendly. my technophobe Partner picked it up instantly. The only thing I initially missed was the ability to jump forward/backwards for the adverts but the fast forward/rewind buttons works just fine. It receives all the same Freeview channels and the catch up services are much better integrated with the ability to add programs from them to ‘My TV’ for easier locating/viewing at a later date.
The only oddity I would say is the HDD spins all the time (extremely quietly), except when it is deep sleep. I just changed the standard deep sleep settings to wake at 7am and shutdown at 12pm as that is the main time we use it. It only takes 60 seconds to wake from deep sleep anyway so it’s no big deal when I need to watch something out of that time.
The App is far superior to the Aura one, but you need to be mindful that it will not accept remote requests to add a schedule if the box is in deep sleep. It will try for a while before finally timing out, not a biggie as I rarely use it. If I was going away I would set the deep sleep to its default settings and then it would be ready to accept scheduling within a bigger time window.
As it’s not Android so there is obviously no App Store so you only have the Apps that the box comes with, but all the main catch up services are there, plus you can add NOW TV subscription and Netflix if you need them.
I purchased mine from Amazon for £114 as I wanted an easy return if I wasn’t happy, but if I buy another I will get from EBay for £90 or less brand new.
At this rate the EE box will need its own thread
Hope this helps.
