[tunefix-update] Automated Freeview channel updates

It's that Glastonbury/Wimbledon time of year again and BBC RB 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 have been brought in to service again on COM8.
Also added is Quest Red+1 and the obligatory bit of LCN shuffling for ITV4+1, CBS Action+1 and True Movies.
The completely useless BBC RB 0 has finally been removed. What did it ever do? Who knows (or cares)?
All brought to you by the latest tunefix-update.

I d/loaded tunefix a few weeks back after a lot of package reading...I re-booted the box and lost all channels in the 800,s...which were all RTE...no 800,s were present..
Any idea why this happened?
Got them back now.....after deleting tuneful and running an Auto Search..

Did you check the configuration through WebIF >> Settings? On installation, tunefix tries to deduce a configuration from the current setup and any channeldel config that went before. You can then adjust it for what you want - but until the GUI editor is corrected you will need to edit the config file manually for your multi-region setup (WebIF >> Diagnostics >> File Editor >> Commonly edited files >> /mod/boot/tunefix.conf - the GUI puts the lines in a non-optimum order, see https://hummy.tv/forum/threads/tune...tion-and-maintenance.6639/page-10#post-103846).

Note that tunefix-update is a separate package from tunefix, so your question is probably in the wrong topic.

Not having had tunefix-update installed before, if I install it now and reboot I get the new services and service changes without a retune?

...but it doesn't help that I can't get COM8.

That's what it's designed to do by default. I refer you to this quote from here:
If a Preferred Region is set, any LCNs which do NOT belong to the specified region are deleted.

So, install it again and, BEFORE rebooting, check the tunefix settings/config. page in the WebIf and delete the "Preferred Region" data.
(Operating with multiple regions is not really recommended though unless you know exactly what you are doing and the limitations this imposes on the operation of the box.)

Anyway, as BH has already said, tunefix and tunefix-update are separate things, although the latter depends on the former. Questions on tunefix should go to the aforementioned thread.

Yes. Obviously you won't get anything else that has changed since your last retune (whenever that was), only the things that changed yesterday.

The cleanest way is to install tunefix-update now and then do a retune, then (hopefully) future changes won't need a retune. That's how it's designed to work anyway.

I see from the .conf file that services are added using a CLONE construct. Does this mean it is not possible to add a service if the relevant mux does not already exist in the tuning set (regardless of whether the mux can be tuned)?

Correct. You need at least one pre-existing service on a mux. if only to define the RF parameters in the TBL_TS table, which is transmitter specific.
(Actually, you could have zero services on a mux. as long as the mux. has been tuned - say you deleted all the existing services with tunefix - I used to have this with COM8 when it only had the QVC crap on it.)

I think there has been a reshuffle around CH 80. Blaze used to be on 83 but is now on 80 (possibly more swaps). I applied the latest TunefixUpdate (1.0.24) last night, but Blaze is still on 83.
Please advise. (Or is it something I have done to screw it?)

It's really designed to be used with auto-update as the changes are incremental rather than cumulative i.e. you've missed installing previous updates which changed the things you mentioned.
I used to make them cumulative for a while, but it gets hard to manage and to know when to prune, so I stopped.
Here are the updates since the start of the year. Copy them into /mod/boot/tunefix-update.conf (you'll need to create the file) and reboot.

It would be useful (to me) if there was something to indicate that a reboot was required to implement new changes, but I guess this topic does that.

Guessed that would be the case. Finger trouble. I only noticed it because one of my TVs had it on 80 and HWMBO asked what was going on.
Thanks for the file data. I'll get it done later today.
Shame that my other Samsung TV moved the HD channels to their 'proper' LVNs when I retuned it. Still, moving them back to LCNs 1, 2, 3 etc is not much of a problem now I know how to do it.
