Words we cannot abide.

Another 'word' that I cannot abide is UPD. It seems that BH is the only person in the world that uses his acronym. I looked up a few and here's the list. There may be repeats as they came from several sources. But not a single Universal Pen Drive amongst them. So how obscure is that?
But hey ho, we have been here before. And I surrendered then, so I surrender now :rolling:

I know. That's why I put it between two apostrophes. :rolling: And it's not exactly a widely accepted initialism either.:(
Oh. Bollox. I rested my case on that one long ago.:disagree:

There are a whole bunch of generally accepted ones to chose from. Do you want me to make a constellation so that you can pick a star? :rolling:

"Can I get"

Aarrrgghhhh!!!!!! (there are not enough !'s to express my indignation)

Heard from a father (I presume British) with young children in the ice cream queue on Friday.

(Yes, I know it's been done before)

I'ts been done to death. But still Aarrrgghhhh!!!!!!
I wish the assistants would say "No, you are not coming behind the counter (due to social distancing) :rolling: . But I will get you one if you wish"

My unfavourite is the phrase/question "can you confirm your name/address/...". When I reply 'yes' and wait, there ensues a long silence. My wife hates me doing this!

can you confirm your name/address/...
I can remember the late Terry Wogan either reading out a letter or grumbling himself about this one. Possibly it was an unsolicited telephone call from a bank.
From memory, the conversation resembled:
[Telephone rings]
Caller: We have something of interest for you. Can you confirm your name (or address).
Callee: But you called me.
Caller: I can't proceed without you confirming your name.
Callee: Oh what a shame.
[Callee hangs up]

Not a very scientific approach I grant you. Some people can cope with pain, others can't. I suppose what the real question is "Do you need more happy juice or are you relatively comfortable?".
