  Thanks again. Its a bit far for using HDMI. Too many holes in walls and bits of trunking which are too small for the HDMI connectors and although I could I don't fancy cutting soldering and heat shrinking a joint with seventeen conductors.

  I only get BBC2 Wales. The program I wanted to record was The City And The City, which is on on at 9.00 PM Friday. I may have been watching a non regional channel. Never thought of that. Looks like you've cracked it. I'll do another check. Thanks.

  Yes, might be worth a try. I'm going to dig a bit further in and see if I can see if I can measure some voltages. Shame there doesn't appear to be a map of the main board anywhere.

  A range of interesting points of view. Maybe I should be asking why new, made for TV productions are 21:9 or 2.31:1, when the 21:9, 5k TV format seems to have been abandoned. The pillar box or letterbox format doesn't bother me too much. I watch lots of pre 16:9 stuff and I expect I've got used...

  Its not so much the pixel count, but the 21:9 ratio. I believe most movies are made to, or close to 21:9 and some TV productions, like Doctor Foster, Trust Me ETC, are shot in 21:9. It seems a bit odd to make a TV production in 21:9 when, to all intents and purposes, the format is dead.
