trusty 9300t finally had enough?

I expect it might be useful to see the output of "sudo smartctl -a /dev/sdc" at this point.
Your disk looks like it's not very well.
You might need a "sudo apt-get install smartmontools" first - I can't remember whether it's on the live CD or not.

Here is output of running tools:
Code:
mint@mint ~ $ sudo smartctl -a /dev/sdc

Hi HU12. It would be good if you could include your listings in a code box. put [code ] before and [/code] after the printout, but omit the space that I have left between the word 'code' and the closing ']'

I have no exerience of the 9300t, but if the above SMART attributes were for a HDR-fox T2, I would say that the HDD had been running far too hot in the past
I see no evidence of that. Anyway, SMART attributes pertain to the disk, not the box it's in.

What is clear is that there are bad sectors that need fixing.
I guess you are going to have to do this the hard way - we could really do with an extract of xyz321's fix-disk with the Humax T2 specific bits excised for general use on Linux machines.
Try "badblocks -b 512 -sv /dev/sdc 1>/tmp/bad" and see what happens. You should get to see a list of the bad blocks by "cat /tmp/bad".

This what
badblocks -b 512 -sv /dev/sdc 1>/tmp/bad

produced:

Code:
mint@mint ~ $ badblocks -b 512 -sv /dev/sdc 1>/tmp/bad
badblocks: Permission denied while trying to determine device size

Just change to a superuser first i.e. "sudo su" or "sudo -i"
It saves all the dullness of stuff like this and the tedium of repeatedly typing "sudo" before everything... and others remembering to put it in the instructions.

After running above it produced:

Code:
mint mint # sudo -i
mint ~ # badblocks -b 512 -sv /dev/sdc 1>/tmp/bad
Checking blocks 0 to 625142447
Checking for bad blocks (read-only test): 0.00% done, 0:00 elapsed. (0/0/0 errdone
